Deception Pass Administrative offices

Washington State Parks remodeled a former commercial restaurant located in the heart of Deception Pass State Park and converted and repurposed the building to house administrative offices for parks staff. The site design focused on sustainable design principles and rehabilitation of existing facilities to meet its new found use as park offices and reflects the historic and culturally significant CCC era of the park with use of site elements and materials.

The design included use of permeable paving and redevelopment of the existing parking lot to minimize impervious area. An RV turnaround, designed for occasional errant RV’s, located adjacent to a Natural Resource Protection Area utilized grass pavers and was designed to avoid critical area root zones of existing trees. Storm water quality and infiltration was addressed by the development of a rain garden woven through a new entry courtyard which highlights the use of native vegetation indigenous to the Deception Pass area. Planning also included conceptual plan options for a future new maintenance facility for all of Deception Pass State Park.
